(18) 1945 (May 27) Members of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion march in a parade ceremony in honor of Joan d’Arc at the marketplace where she burned at the stake (c. Lawrence E. Walker Foundation Collection)

This photograph shows the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion once more as they take part in a parade ceremony in honor of Joan d’Arc at the marketplace where she was burned at the stake. This image was taken on May 27th, 1945, only three months after their arrival in Europe. This image is significant because it is evidence that despite harassment, racism, and sexism, the 6888th stood their ground and paved the way for future African Americans and women in various fields.
